Automated camera placement by robotarm – PATS

Timesaving process for more more precise and reliable results.

Summary

Pats is mostly known for their amazing invention for detecting insects in green houses, the Trap-Eye. They have now automated part of their assembly of the Trap-Eye. With a robotarm they can now automatically place the detection camera’s on the pcb.

Problem

Before this great improvement, someone had to do all the steps manually. Firstly put a piece of double sided tape on the camera and remove the peel. Then open the latch on the pcb to slide the camera in and then close it. After that the lens cover needs to be taken off and the last step is gluing the camera from the side. This process is very time consuming and labor-intensive.

Solution

With only one robot arm they managed to automate this whole process. Also replacing the tape with hot glue so that you can remove the camera with a heat gun in case of a camera failure. With a very multifunctional gripper and a vision system this solution ensures a flawless, cheaper and more precise process.
