Title |
SMR group 8 creates robot to automate asphalt analyzing for Eurofins. |
Subtitle |
Automated asphalt analyzing speeds up production rate and reduces workload. |
Date |
Prototype ships February 6th 2025 |
Intro paragraph |
SMR group 8 creates robot to automate asphalt analyzing for Eurofins. This robot moves the asphalt samples from storage trough the analyzing process. Including painting, photographing and storing. Sizeable buffers allow for lessened workload and increase effective work-time. |
Problem paragraph |
Analyzing asphalt is exhausting and repetitive work. Employees must test the asphalt for non-recyclable substances and document what the sample consists of. This takes a lot of time and concentration. |
The employees must also constantly move around, mark, paint and photograph the samples. These samples can be heavy and the painting has several important restrictions, such as a specific thickness, the requirement of a fume hood and a limited time scope in which the sample must be analyzed. |
The amount of samples that must be analyzed per day ranges from 30 to 150 samples per day. Eurofins wishes to always have a high production rate, however on days with a high workload, the analyzing speed is limited by the amount of time the employees can spend constantly analyzing the samples. |
Solution paragraph |
Describe how your product/service elegantly solves the problem. Give a brief overview of how it works, and then go through and talk about how it solves each problem you listed above. |
→ The samples will be picked from storage to a camera for a clear view of the sample. |
→ Then the sample will be moved trough the painting process into a buffer, waiting for the paint to dry. |
→ After the paint has dried, the robot will move the sample into a UV-light chamber and take a picture with a camera to detect non-recyclable substances. |
→ Lastly a picture in normal light will be taken of the sample and the sample will be stored into an archive. All the pictures will be provided to the Eurofins AI for documentation and analytics. |
- The robot will also keep track of which sample it is processing.
How the product/service works
To work the robot, a program should be started up and the storage buffer must be supplied with the samples. Once the program is running, the employees only have to occasionally replace the paint canisters and empty the drop-off storage point or archive.
